IMG_1662Inspired by the Broadway musical “Hello Dolly!” in 1964 ,these  sticky, gooey, crunchy and  intensely sweet bars take 30 minutes to make. They’ve been called Holly Dolly Squares, Graham Chip Squares, Chocolate Graham Squares, Washington Cookies, Chewy Delights, and others.

The method for preparing these bars is unbelievably quick and easy; there is no mixing, the flavorful ingredients are simply assembled in layers—first graham cracker crumbs, then butterscotch and chocolate chips, coconut flakes and chopped nuts. Sweetened condensed milk is poured over all and then baked.

7-Layer Magic Cookie Bars by Nicole and Holly

1/4 lb. butter

1 c. graham crackers

1 pkg. (6 oz.) chocolate chips

1 pkg. (6 oz.) butterscotch chips

1 c. coconut

1 1/2 c. chopped nuts

1 can sweetened condensed milk

Melt butter in 9 x 13 pan. Add graham crackers, mix and press lightly to form crust. Evenly sprinkle the remaining ingredients in the order given. Drizzle sweetened condensed milk evenly over the top. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 min or until golden on top. Cool and cut into squares – then watch them disappear!
