Watkins Potato Soup

6 medium potatoes, peeled and sliced

2 carrots, chopped

6 celery ribs, chopped

8 cups water

1 onion, chopped

6 tablespoons butter, cubed

6 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon Watkins Pepper

1 tablespoon Watkins Chicken Soup and Gravy Mix

1-1/2 cups milk

In a Dutch oven, cook the potatoes, carrots and celery in water until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain, reserving liquid and setting vegetables aside.

In the same pan, saute onion in butter until tender. Stir in the flour, chicken soup base, salt and pepper; gradually add milk. Bring to a boil, cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Gently stir in cooked vegetables. Add 1 cup or more of reserved cooking liquid until soup is desired consistency. Yield: 8-10 servings (about 2-1/2 quarts).

Watkins Halloween Muddy Buddies

It’s National Candy Corn Day, did you know…

• One serving of candy corn contains only about 140 calories. And it’s fat free!

• Brown, orange and white candy corn or “Indian corn” is available for Thanksgiving.  Red, green and white candy corn is sold at Christmas. There’s Valentine’s Day and Easter themed candy corn, too.

• Along with Hershey’s chocolate and Snickers bars, candy corn makes the Top Ten list of most popular Halloween candies year after year.

Watkins Halloween Muddy Buddies

9 cups corn or rice Chex cereal20151016_172513

1 cup white or semisweet chocolate chips

1/4 cup butter

1/2 cup creamy peanut butter

1 tsp Watkins Pure Vanilla Extract

1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

1 1/2 cups candy corn

1 1/2 cups Reese’s Pieces candy

2 cups mini pretzel twists

Pour Chex cereal in a large bowl and set aside.

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt chocolate chips, butter and peanut butter together on high for 1 minute.  Stir and return to microwave, microwave in 30 minute increment until all lumps are gone.  Stir in Watkins Pure Vanilla Extract.

Pour chocolate-peanut butter mixture over the cereal, stir to coat.  Place cereal in a large zip-top bag, pour powdered sugar on top, seal and shake until evenly coated.

Spread cereal on baking pan and cool completely.

Combine cereal, candy corn, Reese’s Pieces and pretzels. Store in an airtight container.

Watkins Cheese and Garlic Biscuits

Watkins Cheese and Garlic Biscuitsspices

2-1/2 cups biscuit/baking mix

3/4 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 teaspoon Watkins Garlic Powder

1 teaspoon ranch salad dressing mix

1 cup buttermilk


1/2 cup butter, melted

1 tablespoon minced chives

1/2 teaspoon Watkins Garlic Powder

1/2 teaspoon ranch salad dressing mix

1/4 teaspoon Watkins Black Pepper

In a large bowl, combine the baking mix, cheese, garlic powder and salad dressing mix. Stir in buttermilk just until moistened. Drop by tablespoonfuls onto greased baking sheets.

Bake at 450° for 6-8 minutes or until golden brown. Meanwhile, combine topping ingredients. Brush over biscuits. Serve warm. Yield: 2-1/2 dozen.
